JUSTICE FOR A PRESIDENT, JUSTICE FOR THOUSANDS OF CITIZENS

Lluís Companys i Jover (June 21, 1882 - October 14, 1940) was a Spanish Catalan politician and lawyer, leader of the political party Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya, and President of the Generalitat de Catalunya from 1934 and during the Spanish Civil War. Exiled after the war, he was captured and delivered to the regime of the dictator Francisco Franco by the Gestapo, which executed him in 1940. (Wikipedia).

Honorable President of the Generalitat de Catalunya Mr. José Montilla

We are addressing to you Mr President, to ask you in the name of the citizens who have signed this document, that you ,as an elected member chosen by the catalan citizens and as the maximum representative of the Generalitat Government, carry out the reinstatement of one of your predecessors, the President Lluís Companys i Jover.

It is unacceptable for us that at this point of history, after we have been provided by the figure of the Memorial Democràtic and after having been passed the very known "Ley de la memoria" ( memory law), which is not solving several of the problems already set out by the memory associations.

It is unacceptable that the trial of the President Companys, which ended up with his execution in the Montjuïc Castle, on october the 15th 1940, has not been cancelled yet. This fact is at least unusual and with no precedent at all in any other european democratic country which has suffered the curse of fascism.

We think that the overturning of the trial can not be delayed anylonger, and we kindly ask you, as the highest representative of our institutions, to deliver to the appropriate institutions our worthy and just request, which we are sure you share with us as a person, as a democratic politician, and as the President of the most important institution of our country.

We are talking about justice, a moral duty, and a democratic duty to a public office, the highest and most responsible office as you are carrying out right now to the service of the catalan citizens.
